Post Office – Better Features

Unfortunately Post Office 2 is not ready yet, but I am working on adding some new features that all of you would like to see.

Here is a list of new features for Post Office:

  1. Progress bar while uploading the documents or spreadsheets
  2. Better error reporting
  3. Completely new code base:
    1. Lists can be kept from documents
    2. Spreadsheet styles are kept
  4. New tab bar with full customization
  5. Spreadsheet tables are now styled
  6. Spreadsheet Optional Row and Column Names/Numbers with maximizing the table to full screen (so the page design does not restrict the content)
  7. Documents Optional White Page Design (to mimic a page like it appears in Microsoft Word), will also keep styling information

I am trying to complete the next version for 1 October 2011.

If there are any more features you would want to see or anything you want to say about this, please post a comment below.

    is it ready now?

Unfortunately a few very important contracts came up (Post Office does not generate income at this stage) and I am still working on them. I expect Post Office 2.0 to be ready middle November to December 2011.

I appologise for any inconvenience caused by this delay.

I’m looking at Post Office for a couple of purposes but I’m wondering weather it supports the open document format and weather Post Office 2 will offer an embedded document viewer as well as document conversion to posts. The reason I ask about the latter is that I’d like to be able to include a document in a current post or page without the document being editable.

Thanks for the plugin, I will be recommending it.

Currently it does not support the Open Document Format, but it is on a list for future formats.

I can create a document viewer for the plugin without a lot of extra work, when I do get round to work on it further.

      Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your reply. I completely understand what you mean about time: there’s even less of it as you approach 40. I look forward to the new version.

Hi, I just saw this and it’s very likely to be handy in my work for clients. Is there a way we can support the development via donation or chipping in for development? I wouldn’t mind sparing some bits of my project budget to get this capability, especially if it supported the latest versions of Office as well as 2007.

Sounds good to me. I’ll donate if it will help plugin development.

        Hi Lee and Dains
I have now added a PayPal widget for donations to support the development. Also I have now announced that version 2 is scraped, but version 3 will replace it with all it’s planned features and new features.
I will also create a GITHUB open project for this project to allow other developers to help by doing some development.
        Thank you

Hi! First of all, thanks for a very usefull plugin! I’m missing the option that links are converted as well. When I have email-adresses saved in my excel-fil, for instance, they ain’t converted to links, only text.

Currently the Excel extractor have very limited functionality (due to the complicated way the files work). Further if an email address is converted to a link, they are a lot easier for spam harvesters to find (resulting in a lot of spam), thus I am not going to let it convert email addresses to links.

The new version, currently under development, will have the ability to be extended (and built-in extractors can be modified into a plugin for custom functionality) and will have a lot more features and functionality (amongst others it will be fully integrated into WordPress).
